First Impression: What Scene Fits This Setting?

Since my theme this month for how to write a novel is how to write settings, I have a prompt that asks your first impression: what scene fits this setting? Without thinking much about it, what kind of scene would you place here? A meet-cute? An opening scene? A climax?

I won’t tamper with your first impression by stating here what came to my mind. Let me know how this photo inspires you!

Here are more writing prompts about settings.

  1. I’d say an opening! A surf competition is scheduled to begin in 2 hours, so the beach is getting crowded with judges, competitors and spectators. When one of the judge’s sons leans into the cafe to announce that the teams need to gather for a photo, the overworked, underpaid waitress can’t help but notice the wallets and purses left at the tables. Her daughter’s scholarships helped some, but the rent just increased and the surfing crowd doesn’t tip well enough to keep her afloat. She begins to take a few bills from a few wallets, but when she notices she’s in the background of the surfers’ impromptu photo shoot, she embarks on a mission to steal the photographer’s work, which will turn out to be much harder than stealing the cash.
