Since this month’s theme at JPC Allen Writes is characters, who are your favorite book characters? For me, a character becomes a favorite when I seek out their company again and again. Here’s partial list of mine because I’m sure there are some I’ve forgotten:
- Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. (The older I get, the more impressive Dr. Watson becomes.)
- Miss Jane Marple
- Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin by Rex Stout
- Father Brown by G.K. Chesterton
- Jeeves and Wooster
- The entire Threepwood family from the Blandings stories by P.G. Wodehouse
- Uncle Abner by Melville Davisson Post
- Bigwig and Blackberry from Watership Down by Richard Adams
Let me know in the comments who are your favorite books characters.
Here are writing prompts for characters.
May’s theme is all about characters, my favorite aspect of writing. All my stories are character-driven. Once I know my main characters, I can run with my plots and settings. Reading about characters who touch me or with whom I identify inspires me to develop my own.
